About Naturopathic Medical Doctors

Naturopathic Medical Doctors (N.M.D.s) attend accredited naturopathic medical schools at nationally recognized universities in the United States or Canada. Their training includes a comprehensive medical education that combines conventional medical sciences with evidence-based natural and integrative therapies.

In the state of Arizona, N.M.D.s are licensed with a broad scope of practice and are trained to serve as primary care physicians (PCPs) or family physicians. Their scope includes the ability to provide IV therapy, perform minor surgical procedures, and conduct comprehensive examinations, including women’s pelvic examinations. Naturopathic physicians may also order laboratory testing and diagnostic imaging, prescribe medications when appropriate, and collaborate with other physicians and healthcare professionals within the medical community to ensure comprehensive patient care.

Arizona-licensed naturopathic physicians are uniquely trained to approach medicine from multiple perspectives. Their care may include natural and holistic therapies as well as conventional (allopathic) medical treatments when necessary.

Meet Dr. Freeze

Dr. Karen Freeze is a highly experienced Arizona-based Naturopathic Medical Doctor specializing in the treatment of chronic disease, autoimmune conditions, thyroid disorders, and hormonal imbalances. Known for her compassionate approach and dedication to identifying the root causes of illness, Dr. Freeze provides personalized, integrative care designed to help patients restore their health and improve their quality of life.

Dr. Freeze earned her Doctorate in Naturopathic Medicine in 2003 from the National University of Naturopathic Medicine in Portland, Oregon. Since then, she has been practicing in Goodyear, Arizona, where she serves patients locally within the community as well as individuals throughout the United States.

Her passion for naturopathic medicine is deeply personal. While attending the University of Hawaii—where she earned both her Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees in Sociology—Dr. Freeze developed a serious autoimmune illness that caused debilitating fatigue, recurrent infections, hair loss, anemia, and chronic hives. When conventional medical treatments failed to provide answers, she turned to naturopathic medicine and experienced a dramatic recovery.

This life-changing experience inspired Dr. Freeze to pursue a career in naturopathic medicine so she could help others facing complex and frustrating health challenges.

Since beginning her medical practice, Dr. Freeze has helped many patients regain their health through thoughtful, individualized treatment plans. Patients appreciate her attentive listening, her commitment to uncovering the underlying causes of symptoms, and her dedication to guiding them toward long-term wellness.

Dr. Freeze describes her approach to care as integrative medicine. While her passion lies in naturopathic medicine and natural therapies, she recognizes that certain situations may require conventional treatments, including pharmacological medications, in order to provide the most effective and responsible care for her patients.
